Training on Carbon Stocks Assessment (CSA); Basic GIS & Remote Sensing; and Basic Tree Species Identification & Sample Collection Procedure

Today is the 1st day of the training on Carbon Stocks Assessment (CSA); Basic GIS & Remote Sensing; and Basic Tree Species Identification & Sample Collection Procedure for about 30 staffs of Sawit Kinabalu from their Sg. Pin Estate, Sandau Estate, Sungai-Sungai Estate and ARAS Gomantong. Similar trainings were held in November 2017 and July 2018 to 30 staffs of Sg Pin Estate and Aras Gomantong, hence, it’s a refresher course for some. The 2-day training will be coordinated by the Site Project Officer, Mr. Joseph Pirin and assisted by the Project’s MRV Officer, Mr. Jambery Siong and Tree ID expert from Forest Research Centre (FRC), Mr. Postar Miun. Today’s sessions covered topics on current climate change issue, MRV of REDD+, GIS analysis & Remote Sensing, Carbon Stock Assessment (CSA), related calculations; tree species identification and sample collection procedure. Today’s session is more on theory but tomorrow will be the fun part whereby the participants will get to do practical training at Bukit Mansuli. Awesome!
