Aged
70, a Malaysian was appointed as Board of Director
on 11 May 2005. He is a holder of Bachelor of Science Degree in
Administrative Management and Master of Arts Degree in Public Administration,
which he earned from college of Technology, Sussex, England and
University of California, USA. He was awarded a Colombo Plan Scholarship
in 1964 by the Government of New Zealand to study Local Government
and Public Administration at Victoria University of Wellington,
New Zealand. He is also a holder of Diploma in Journalism. As a
trained Journalist, he has authored nine books. His latest book
on sale in Sabah, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore is "Sabah Under
The Rising Sun Government".
Datuk Evans has served the then British North Borneo
Government, attached to District Office Beaufort. He joined the
Brunei State Government in 1954 and attached to the State Secretariat
in Bandar Seri Begawan. Few years later, he was seconded to the
British High Commission's Office as Administrative Officer, under
His Excellency, Sir Dennis Charles White, KCMG, POAS, British High
Commissioner for Brunei State.
In 1962, he returned to Sabah and worked as a part-time
News Reporter convering the Interior Residency of Tenom, Keningau
and Tambunan, attached to the Department of Broadcasting & Information,
Sabah. He was elected as a Member of Parliament, Malaysia from 1974
to 1983. He was appointed a Justice of Peace, by the State Government
in 1977. In 1985, he stood for the Sabah State General Elections
and was elected as a State Legislative Assemblyman for Bingkor Constituency.
He has also served as Director and Chairman of
SLDB, SLDB Plantation Management Services Sdn Bhd, Sapi Plantations
Sdn Bhd and Lahad Datu Edible Oils Sdn Bhd from 1985 to 1993. He
has also represented SLDB in the 63rd World Congress of International
Association of Seed Crushers Conference held in Vancouver, Canada
in 1988 and the 66th World Congress of IASC held at Chicago, Illinois,
USA in 1992. He was also responsible in bringing Palm Oil Plantation
in Tenom, Dalit and Keningau as a substitute for timber in maintaining
the economy of the District.
He has no conflict of interest with the Company
and its subsidiaries, and has no family relationship with any other
Directors of the Company.
