Caring for the environment is an on on-going concern
of Sawit Group with concerted efforts being made to reduce impact on
the environment.
Conservation & Reforestation Project

As a responsible organisation, Sawit Kinabalu’s major contribution
to the society is its conservation and reforestation project. Sawit
Group has signed an MOU with WWF-Malaysia in August 2003 to conserve
and reforest 1,260 ha or 15% of the Group's 8,260 ha of land in Sg.
Pin estate. It was signed between Mr Salim Mohammad on behalf of Sawit
Group and Dr Geoffrey Davidson for WWF-Malaysia and witnessed by YB
Datuk Rahim Ismail, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Sabah.
The MOU involves:
-
1,155 ha for conservation
The conservation area will serve as a wildlife corridor to help
secure the habitat of some of Malaysia's most threatened species.
-
105 ha for reforestation
The planting of flood resistant native tree species on this area
started in April 2004. About 52,000 native trees will be planted
in this area by the end of 2004.
Sawit Group is also looking into developing this project into nature
tourism.

- biological control of pests and diseases
- zero burning
